« Well WHOOPEE!

Rough draft

There's something to be said for being able to ramble on to no one in particular. It has strange medicinal properties when it comes to peace of mind. I think that's a good thing these days. Especially these days.

When I was a bit younger, I had a sense of the world that was much different than it is today. I suppose this is the natural state of things, but my generation seems to be shouldered with a uniquely perfect storm. I was never naive, at least not terribly naive, however I was ignorant to quite a few things (and will continue to be forever on others I suppose).

Still, the one thing I haven't been able too either let go of, or reconcile in my own mind, is the general belief of good in people. It was something I held to be almost a certainty at points in my life, and it gave me solace. I have come to find it may have been one of the more naive fantasies I concocted, or had concocted for me by external sources (movies, media, etc.).

I look around me at the world today and it drives me mad. I don't mean the big picture either, I don't dare dream so large when selfishness and wastefulness live in so many I meet on a daily basis. Now don't get me wrong here, none of us are saints. This I know is true and laugh when someone speaks otherwise, however so much of this behavior I speak of is unnecessary selfishness. Unnecessary wastefulness.

At what point do we all look around us, at ourselves and our neighbors, and just decide to make little cut backs. Major vacations are nice when they can be done, but they are not a right. Nice cars, nice clothes, the latest gadgets. These things are not important. Some of the best tech minds I know, not in terms of monetary value but in terms of real knowledge and joy from work, have some of the cheapest things out there. They don't upgrade every time there is something new, that's just insanity. I'm sure the same is true in many other fields as well. True inspiration and creation in most fields begins with those types of people, and those are the people whom we need more of.

American Idol is not those people. One Life to Live is not those people. Pop music is not those people. I really hope that moving forward we can begin to show more respect for those directly around us, instead of wasting our time on nonsense like the above.

So that's what this is all about I suppose, a little revolution I envision in my own mind. Like ours (American) "began" with tea, mine shall begin with teatime.

That first little rant felt nice. Granted it was a bit all over the place, but that's how my mind works so I suppose it's to be expected. I'll be writing random things here and there about articles I've read, if I come across anything interesting (or damn frustrating!).
